Holiday's Over

So the last few days have been really lazy, I've barely done anything worth writing about, its been a case of eating, sleeping, tanning, shopping and all the hum drum stuff you can do anywhere in the world, until today.

Today was really cool, it was orientation day, or O' day as everyone here calls it. i got my uni at 10am and for four hours i wandered around a mass of different stalls and games and all kinds of weird things, it was really fun! there were a whole gazebo full of people from a youth group that had 2 main guys really working the crowd, they played games and rap battles and all kinds of weird shit. there was Limbo, inflatable surfing, fishing for ducks, wheels of fortune, food, drink and even a giant gorilla and emu...yeah i don't know either.

it was definitely the best welcome day I've been too, after about 4 hours of it i made my way home and trawled through all the frees stuff. am thinking about joining a few clubs just to get more active while im over here, fencing or volleyball or something. also looking into a few trips in April after my second student loan drops, either New Zealand for 4 days rebuilding a rain forest  or Zambia for 8 days on safari and teaching English in schools, haven't decided yet.

Will keep you posted :)

Sun Sea and Sandboarding

Okay guys and girls brace yourself because this will probably be a long one :P...

Today i went on a tour, it involved quite a lot so i'll break it down into chunks for your enjoyment :)
First was the Animal sanctuary, it was soo cool! our guide Harrie (typical Aussie with sandy curly hair an envious tan) took use round the park on a lightning speed 45 minute route, we got to meet and feed the Koalas who didn't seem to pleased to see 32 Asians, 1 Pasty teenager and a menopausal Lady from hull sticking leaves in their faces while they where napping...but we did it anyway, eventually they woke up and we had a little cuddle and stroke was really nice :)

After the Koalas came the kangaroos, there were awesome! i fed like all of them, they mauled me at one point because i stole Harrie's hat that was full of food on the floor, so i was overrun by roo's but it was so cute! petted them and fed them and got some photos for a while, was nice :)

Then i quickly discovered what a Wombat was....i wont say anything just look at the picture it sums everything up...

Moving on we hit lunch which was nice, it was in a small fishing town on the coast, although there was a guide tour of the lobster factory...yeah, force the vegetarian to learn about the mass slaughter of lobster and their fertile underbelly before lunch...yummy

We hit the pinnacles dessert about 3pm and it was a massive 43 degrees out there!!! got some awesome pics and had a 2km walk around the main area of the dessert couldnt go too far because i'd get lost lol, but yeah was awesome.

Then after another hour in coach we went to a different dessert to go sandboarding and go off road 4by4 driving. everyone was scared to sandboard and id never done it before but i was still the first one to go down these massive white dunes, accidentally picked an almost near vertical drop as my first go but never mind, what followed was an hour and a half of running up the dunes a whizzing down to the bottom in about a tenth of the time it took you to get up the bloody sand in the first place. I had sand in places i never knew i had...but was awesome definitely the best day so far, gunna be going swimming tomorrow if i can muster the energy, work on the beach body :P

Ciao! x

Last few days

Yesterday and the day before where really good days actually, i managed to achieve the heroic feat of watching 3 series of supernatural in 3 days, this was possible because i was finally determined to break my jet lag, i was sleeping English hours until Sunday night i stayed up all night then all day to break the cycle, it worked :)

then Monday i got up early to got to Kings Park, a beautiful national park about three times the size of Central Park in NYC, but i changed my mind at the last minute and jumped on a train to the next city across of Freemantle. Freemantle is a coastal town famous for its prison, its boats and its doctor. the 'Freemantle doctor' is nothing of the sort, its actually the sea breeze. 1pm every day the sea blows in cold refreshing air from across the Indian ocean that is said to be so relaxing it can cure anything, im drooling at the though of it! i went along the beach and saw some of the massive boats people own there, seriously rich!

After that i had a guided tour of the Freemantle Prison in 41 degrees, not the best idea but it was fascinating, the hangman's court was a bit freaky but it was nice to be able to say been there done that. :)

Then i got an early night because it was Tuesday that would be the best...

sweaty me in a prison cell lol

eeeeep....

charming, home from home

The Zoooo

Been a few days since my last blog, i had a really down day because i lost 'something' i really cared about but thankfully it was right where i left it i just wasn't looking hard enough ;-) so after said lost item was unlost i began planning how to really enjoy the next few weeks before my timetable kicks in.

I've decided on the touristy stuff im going to do before my mum and sister come over in a few weeks, two day trips one  up north and one down south. i'll give you guys more details as i actually do them but one involves Sand boarding which sounds really cool! and the other a 70 meter high tree top canopy walk which sounds cool too! Alas i wont be getting any higher than that because sky diving and hot air ballooning is like 450 bucks a go! screw that!

Today i got the ferry across the quay to the south of Perth and had a little look around, there are some awesome little parks which i sunbathed and read my book in, the boat ride itself was really cool because you could see these really weird looking jellies just floating in the water, some of them where really big, like 10 inches across! kinda gross though.

i don't think i could of looked anymore like a tourist if i had of tried today! i had my camera, my sunnies, my hat all was good, i went to Perth Zoo for a look at the animals that i would get a chance to see anywhere else and it was really cool, i arrived late but still caught feeding time for the Koalas and bath time for the Indian elephants, one was so cute it was doing a dance lol! i saw loads of cool animals but most of them were sleeping :( (it was like 39 degrees and 3 pm so if i hadn't have been watching them sleep i would've been doing the same) The kangaroos were cool, one licked my hand and i got scared so run off lol (it was an open enclosure to walk around) some kind of Wetland bird got in a fight with me, flew right on over and got all flappy in my grill, cheek! Koalas were definitely the coolest bit though, so cute. and apparently my trip up north includes a koala sanctuary tour so fingers crossed ill get to hold one of those cuddly balls of fur...then pass it back before it rips a chunk out my arm...note to self- refrain from using the moisturizer with eucalyptus extract...draws attention from them....

anyways, im going to have a quite day tomorrow because i've had a constant headache for about 2/3 days now, possibly mild sunstroke so a day in the shade and lots of water, then after that im probably going to the national park in west Perth.

talk to you then! x

First weeekend in Perth

So there i was casually minding i own business in my room, innocently skype-ing a dear friend of mine, when suddenly... out of nowhere, this scaly green THING with antennas and foam at the the end of his hideous face, throws itself in my direction and i freak...on camera. Im sure to my beloved recipient it looked like some kind of aneurysm but i assure you no, that look was in fact  a 20 year old homosexual discovering that in the right circumstances, he has the ability to fly.

Never have my legs been tucked so far under my chin as i huddled tot he top of my office chair like the mast on a sinking ship. luckily it stopped hopping and in a shower of blue, red and black biros i caged the beast under my pen pot. Such was the beginning of my weekend, i didn't sleep to well.

However, today Saturday morning, was the first time i ventured into the city on my own, i arrived in the peak of the heat and like all pasty tourist required refreshment. By Google maps 'chance' i happened to stumble across one of two of Perth gays bars, as you do in a foreign country i walked to the bar and made one of the hardest decisions of my life, all the gays watching, will the fresh meat order a cocktail? or a beer? terrible i know but i went with a cider, several sips and a fidgety perch on a window seat later and conversation was struck between myself and a group of lads. I MADE FRIENDS! yesssss! turns out one is a friggin millionaire! so what followed was a combination of drinks, pool, poker, stand up comedy DVD from the lovely Pam Ann. (amazing comedian Google her). amazing three course BBQ and champagne! hence the facebook status earlier this evening about me loving life.

After a dodgy start i seem to have regained the trust of my fellow weekend. phew! Apparently the whole city shuts down on a sunday, just like when a snow flake hits the london underground so im going to have to stay in tomorrow and amuse myself with writing and university organisation...

joy.

Journal Entry 2

First few days...

So all is going smoothly in daveyville, my inner legs have reddened to a curious shape so they are pale on the outside red on the inside, my nose make me look like a Rudolph wannabee and i'm sweating like a Las Vegas showgirl, but its fun!

I had my first little (3 hour!) walk into the city to get a feel for the place and its so different from London  i watched a black and white film on an open cinema screen just free and set up on the grass, played some pool, burnt and found some very curious road names...i would hate to live at No2, 'the hidden potential of back lanes' St.

Life is so much slower paced, everything is farther apart, not driving is gonna suck but i'll manage, i'm trying to work out things to do with my three day weekends, trips to places by bus and that which aren't too far South and North...I'll keep you guys posted with ideas. the height of my day has been buying linen, opening a bank account and organizing my stationary but its exhausting! seriously!

Saw my first cockroach today, I didn't scream but inside i turned into a nine year old girl wetting herself and was half way up the nearest palm tree. but that said my testosterone flowed like usual and my masculinity didn't falter. (im about as masculine as a teaspoon)

anywho's its midnight and the west coast has yet to throw something crazy at me so im going to get an early night just in-case tomorrow is the day i come face to face with a snake or accidentally mud wrestle a koala...hey it could happen their vicious little bitches.

Told you so.

Journal Entry 1

The Comings and Goings of Me...

Hi guys and girls,

Most of you will know me well enough to already know im Dave :). I'm 20 years old and originally from Portsmouth, England but have lived in London for about a year and a half. This blog is record of my adventure too and across Western Australia, im out here on a sixth month exchange and i cant wait! as it is I've been here three days and have seen the inside of a bank, my local town and a rather curious looking Mexican takeout in the city...but baby steps...

So how did i end up at a desk on the other side of world staring out to a field of aboriginal plant life and bugs? if i had to sum up my first half of university it would be two keys stages:

Stage 1- The border- I was the neutral ground in a fragile yet determined relationship between a northern Irish lass and a southern Irish beauty, best of friends, worst of enemies and i got thrown in the middle of it, but i live to tell the tale. they've become two great friends that set me off on my first days of uni with a smile and a wave; only so that they can turn my bedroom upside down while im in class and create rather artistic display of sex toys in my window...bitches.

Stage 2-The queen- Not a lot of 20 year old guys can say they've slept with a drag queen...the first half of my 2nd year was spent sharing a room with the infamous and dazzling Miss Linda Gold, better known as Mikey the scouser... after a few tequilas we became the best of mates and each others undivided wing-man. sharing a room meant it was a regular theme for me to wake up covered in glitter, or red wine or god knows what bodily fluid from the night before. rummaging through my underwear draw and finding a silicon boob? no biggy. but one good thing was that there was ALWAYS plenty of wine!

Once you throw in a few memorable experiences, like being chased down the road by an angry dwarf, or beating every straight guy in Newquay at there own strip tease by biting off her underwear, or having a picture of you dressed as Satan snogging a vampire in the local magazine, then you end up with a outlook on life that can only be summed up with the words... 'fuck it'.
